About our School
The Building
Our school serves the village of Sprouston and surrounding rural areas. The school was built in 1966 and has one main open plan classroom with adjoining work spaces and activity areas, a second classroom which is used for music lessons and other group activities and a hall. There is an extensive outdoor area for play, P.E and gardening. The outdoor area has been developed and the children really benefit from outdoor explorative learning and exploring.
Uniform
We actively encourage the wearing of school uniform at Sprouston Primary. Apart from being practical and comfortable it gives a sense of pride and community within the school and when out and about on trips etc. The school uniform is a navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan with the school logo. Pupils are asked to wear a white polo shirt and grey, black or navy trousers/shorts or skirts. In the summer months girls may choose to wear a blue and white gingham dress. Sweatshirts, cardigans, jackets, fleeces and polo shirts may be ordered throughout the year. Please order online at Border Embroideries. Orders can be delivered to the school free of charge or to a home address for a fee. All items of clothing and other belongings should have the child's name clearly marked. We discourage pupils from wearing certain items of fashion clothing, jeans, football shirts and unsuitable footwear. For safety reasons pupils should not wear high heels, bulky rings or bracelets or earrings other than studs. Jewellery should not be worn during P.E lessons Clothing and footwear grants are available through welfare benefits – see Scottish Borders Council website or ask at the school office for further information.

Houses
We currently have one ‘Sprouston’ house that all pupils collect points for. We have a reward chart with goals at certain points for different rewards, such as a pajama day, baking and a trip to the local park.
School Lunches
School meals are available at a cost of £2.90 for a two course meal with the choice of two traditional dishes or a soup and sandwich option plus a drink of milk or water. Provision is also made for children to eat packed lunches. No glass bottles or fizzy drinks should be brought to school. School meals can be ordered through Parentpay. Free meals are available and application should be made to Scottish Borders Council (SBC) and permission granted. Application forms may be obtained from the SBC website.
All pupils in P1-5 are entitled to a school meal at no charge.
